London Olympics 2012: Day 10

It was a relatively relaxed day at the Olympics, with the USA earning only two medals. Probably the most exciting part of the day was the amazing soccer game in the afternoon between the US and Canada teams.

The US-Canada women’s soccer semifinal was exciting, to say the least. The U. S. team scored when they were down 3-2 and forced overtime, and Alex Morgan from the USA made a header which landed in the goal – and the United States won gold with the game with the score 4-3. They will face Japan in the gold-medal match later on.

Track and Field

Jenn Suhr won the Pole Vault competitons today with her outstanding performance, snatching the third straight gold from Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia.

The other medal for the Americans today was earned by Michael Tinsley in the men’s 400 meter hurdles, where he won silver. The Dominican Republic’s Felix Sanchez won gold.

It wasn’t Gabby Douglas’s best day today, as she finished dead last in today’s uneven bars final. Aliya Mustafina from Russia, her arch-rival, won gold in this event. In the men’s competitions, Brazil won gold in the rings and Korea won gold in the vault.

Team USA Basketball soundly defeated Argentina today 126-97. The US is now facing Australia in the quarter-finals.

Medal Count

Today the US didn’t earn very many medals, but neither did China. China still has an edge on America, with 64-63 medals overall, and 31-29 in gold medals. Russia had a good day today, and they are now third place with 42 Olympic medals.
